Summit Speech School’s 35th Annual Spring Benefit

Summit Speech School is pleased to announce that their 35th Annual Spring Benefit Luncheon will be held on Thursday, May 15, 2025, at the Westin Governor Morris in Morristown, NJ.

As the school’s largest fundraising event, the Spring Benefit Committee is delighted, once again, to treat guests to a lovely event including guest speakers, silent and ticket auctions, grand raffle, and gourmet chocolates available for purchase. This year’s keynote speaker is Jenna Bush Hager, host of TODAY with Jenna and Friends and editor at large at Southern Living magazine. Currently, Hager is chair of UNICEF’s Next Generation, an initiative dedicated to reducing the number of preventable childhood deaths around the world.

Her latest book, a collaboration with sister Barbara Bush Pierce, is inspired by the majesty of nature all around us. I Loved You First, is an expansive and gently whimsical celebration of parental love and a companion to the sisters’ New York Times bestselling children’s books, Sisters First and Love Comes First.

We will also be honoring philanthropist, confectioner and longtime friend of Summit Speech School, John Tompkins. John served as a member of the Summit Speech School Board of Trustees from 2014-2024. After retiring from a successful career on Wall Street, John founded JT’s Confections on a whim in 2012. A few years later, as the business became profitable, John’s wife Sharon suggested that the profits be donated to charity. At that time, the business adopted its mission statement, “To help those who help others.” Today, John’s talent as a confectioner and entrepreneurial spirit supports many local nonprofit organizations including Summit Speech School.

Summit Speech School is a unique resource serving New Jersey’s children who are deaf or hard of hearing. We help them learn to listen and talk, without the use of sign language, so they can become full participants in the hearing and speaking world. Our school provides services to children from infancy through high school, throughout New Jersey, using the latest hearing technology coupled with intensive training in speech, language, and listening skills. Generous funding from sponsors enables our teachers, therapists, and support staff to create equity and inclusion for our deaf and hard of hearing children so they can attend mainstream schools and succeed in their social relationships, college, and careers.
