Westfield Memorial Library Seeks to honor Martin Luther King, Jr and the Spirit of Volunteerism in January
January is viewed as a time of new beginnings and resolutions, but it’s also a month for volunteerism and the chance to honor Martin Luther King, Jr. who asked, “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, ‘What are you doing for others?’”
The Westfield Memorial Library and the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Association of Westfield are happy to give you the opportunity to answer that question for yourself. On Sunday, January 12th from 2:00pm to 4:00pm, you can stop by the Meeting Room for the library’s 2nd Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service Volunteer Fair.
You’ll have the opportunity to talk with many different nonprofit organizations and find an organization that aligns with your own mission, goals and schedule. Volunteering can help you build connections with other people in the community, improve your physical and mental health, advance your career, teach you valuable job skills, and bring greater enjoyment and fulfillment to your life.
“Volunteers are the heart and soul of many nonprofit organizations in the greater Westfield area,” says Allen McGinley, Library Director. “But finding individuals who have the time, energy, and passion to be of service can be difficult.
“More than 100 people attended the first volunteer fair to learn about service opportunities in Westfield,” continued McGinley. “And we expect even more participation for the second annual event.”
Some of the participating organizations include representatives from: Big Brother Big Sister of Essex, Hudson & Union Counties; Caring Contact; Center for Hope Hospice; NAMI Union County NJ; Refugee Assistance Partners NJ (RAP); St. Joseph Social Service Center; Westfield Fun Club and Westfield Green Team.
