STEAM Career Week

As Summit’s elementary schools celebrated STEAM Career Week last week, Board of Education President Walidah Justice proudly announced that more than fifty parents and community volunteers signed up to support the teachers in presenting to students in grades one through five.

Justice commended the engagement of students and willingness of presenters to answer questions, demonstrating the importance of connecting classroom learning with real-world opportunities, during last week’s BOE meeting.

“The teachers’ goal for STEAM Career Week was to expose students to a wide range of opportunities within the STEAM fields while also highlighting the diverse backgrounds of professionals in those fields,” Justice said.

“Every elementary school received a state-of-the-art STEAM lab in the 2022-2023 school year and, thanks to the generosity of the Summit Educational Foundation, this year the teachers wanted to expand on their offerings and provide students with the opportunity to learn about different career paths or hobbies related to science, technology, engineering, art or mathematics.”
