Santa’s Surprise:

Santa Claus famously comes to town on Christmas Eve, but for almost 1,000 homes in Cranford each year, he makes an early delivery.

The Cranford Jaycees’ annual Santa Deliveries and Toy Drive collects toy donations for needy families. Parents also drop off a wrapped toy for Santa to deliver.

In 2023, local residents donated nearly 3,000 toys, filling two U-Haul trucks to the brim. These gifts were distributed to families in need within Cranford and through organizations such as Cranford Family Care, the New Jersey Community Development Corporation in Paterson, and Union County Social Services.

The Cranford Police and Fire Departments, along with the Cranford Police Auxiliary, provided escorts for Santa’s visits, adding to the festive atmosphere.

Behind the scenes, a dedicated team of more than 60 Jaycee volunteers worked tirelessly to make the event a reality. From organizing presents and loading delivery cars to planning routes and suiting up as Santa Claus, their efforts ensured a seamless operation. Eight teams, each with a Santa and elf helpers, delivered presents on each night of the event.

As the holiday season unfolds, the Jaycees’ Santa Deliveries and Toy Drive serves as a heartwarming reminder of the magic of Christmas.

Mike Bond and Cameron Andre, who have co-chaired the event for almost a decade, expressed their gratitude for the community’s overwhelming support. “Seeing the joy on children’s faces when Santa arrives is the ultimate reward,” Bond said. “We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who donated toys and helped spread holiday cheer.”
