ML Summer Experience Makes Learning Fun

Twenty-two Westfield students in grades K-5 took part in the Multilingual Learners (ML) Summer Experience, a two-week summer camp that provides meaningful enrichment activities to help students continue their English language acquisition.

This year’s ML program ran from July 8-19 at Wilson Elementary School and welcomed students whose native languages include Chinese, Hebrew, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, and Ukrainian.

“Our main goal during the ML Summer Experience is for our students to learn through fun and for them to make meaningful connections between language and everyday life experiences,” says K-12 Supervisor of Gifted and Talented, Multilingual Learners, and World Languages Enrique Pincay.  “It’s also great to see the friendships that develop during camp.”

ML Summer Experience teachers Jillian Martinez and Sydney Swingle provided Olympic-themed student-centered activities that culminated in a visit to the New Jersey Hall of Fame in East Rutherford.
