How long have you lived here and what brought you to town?
We purchased our home in October of 2013 and are so grateful to have found Cranford. While hunting for our first home together we looked in a variety of locations. Cranford was recommended to us by a family friend who lives here. The determining factor was that we wanted to raise our children closer to family, we didn’t want to be far from NYC or the Jersey shore and we wanted a town with great school districts and a downtown area. Cranford seemed to check off all of these boxes and when walking around the town we fell in love with the restaurants, shops, bike trails and so much more.
What are your favorite family activities?
We absolutely love October in Cranford. The Pumpkin Carve-out and scarecrow stroll are two of our favorite downtown activities that we are sure to never miss. For local creative options, we like Fire Me Up Studio!
What’s your favorite restaurant and/or place to shop?
It’s hard to pick just one. My kids love the treats from Esther’s Treats, Vanilla Bean Creamery, and Playa Bowls. We also frequently stop into Rogue Comics & Collectibles while downtown. I’m a fan of Dreyer Farms and Breadsmith. My husband and I love to eat at Ambeli Greek Taverna and Mizu Sushi.
What was the best advice on motherhood that you ever received?
Every stage is a phase. Each phase passes quickly (especially in the early years), it is constantly changing and you have to embrace the moment and appreciate all that it brings even when you feel defeated and pushed to your limit.
Tell us about your job or passion.
I began my career in Art Education and taught high school art for 14 years. The pandemic shifted my career path and I began creating pottery in my basement to sell locally via Facebook drops. During that time, my work was featured in Real Simple Magazine and I began selling nationally through my website www.IndigoRoadStudio.com. This naturally led to the need for more space outside of my basement and long story short, I opened a pottery studio in South Orange, NJ where I sell my work and also teach classes. We just celebrated one year since opening and are excited to be expanding and opening another studio this year.
What inspired you to follow this career?
I’ve always had a passion for creating and found teaching to be incredibly rewarding. Being able to build my own creative community where I can share my passion with others is an absolute dream come true and I’m so grateful that my life took this turn. It all was a vision in my mind but I did not know it would happen on this timeline. Everything evolved naturally over time with a consistent vision, endless support and encouragement from my husband, and a hard work ethic. As the Roman philosopher Seneca once said “Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity”.
