Where/Why did you get your pet?

Impulsively in 2019, we rescued Theo from a local foster in Cranford as a surprise for our kids. He was one of five “Labrador-Doberman Mix” puppies that were rescued from the Carolinas during Hurricane Dorian. He came to us crate-trained, housebroken, and in fact an American Foxhound at 11 weeks old.

Anything special or unusual about your pet?

The most unique feature Theo has is his tail. We were told that when he and his siblings were rescued, the puppies were more than likely pulled up by their tails and thrown in crates. The end result is a healed yet crooked tail that resembles a hook. It looks crazy but I think it gives him character.

Any funny stories?

Being first-time dog rescue owners we were not sold on the breed description since some of the behaviors and traits Theo exhibited did not mimic Lab or Dobie. The gift of Wisdom Panel answered most of our questions. Theo was neither Labrador nor Doberman, but 75% American Foxhound. That being said, he has yet to chase any foxes that have crossed our path but he has managed to catch a bird and a chipmunk.

What do you like best about your pet?

I do not think we can pick just one thing but some of the Theo-isms we have grown to adore are his love for sunbathing on the lawn, his need to show anyone who enters the house a new toy he has been given, and his love for lettuce and broccoli.

How has the pet enriched your life?

Theo gave us a reason to stay moving and get out of the house during the pandemic. He has always been the best walking companion. While Theo is not much of a snuggler, he still seems to know when one of us needs him by our side.
