Editor’s Note: Responses come from Giada Cammarano, President, and Yvonne Zheng, Vice President and Director of Fundraising.
Can you provide a bit of history about your organization?
The first chapter was started at Roosevelt Intermediate School, and eventually it expanded nationwide.
How long have you been with this organization?
Giada: I have been a part of this organization since 6th grade.
Yvonne: I joined in 9th grade
What drew you to be part of this group?
We care about feminist issues and feel passionate about the opening of opportunities for girls around the world. Women’s right to education needs to be protected, and also economically, girls receiving their education can help to lead their communities out of poverty.
What types of tasks do you perform?
Every year, we pick an organization to support. We fundraise through holding bake sales. This year, our organization is the Unnati organization, which provides comprehensive programs for girls in Nepal who live in vulnerable situations.
How can the community help your efforts?
Participate in our fundraisers. Anyone can raise awareness about the importance of women’s education by talking about it openly and decreasing the stigma around it.
How can someone get involved or join?
