VACNJ’s Summer Art Camp Exposes Children to the Wellness Benefits of Art-Making

Recent studies show that participating in art-making provides a variety of wellness benefits for the artist. This is especially true for children who, in addition to experiencing reduced levels of stress, also benefit from the boosted self-confidence and improved social and emotional well-being that comes along with creative expression. The Visual Arts Center of New Jersey in downtown Summit aims to provide these beneficial art programs for creators of all ages, particularly youth who are still developing ways of processing stress and building self-confidence. In our Summer Art Camp program, we help campers take advantage of the wellness benefits of art-making while providing a fun and creative camp experience. With 10 weeks of camp to take advantage of, campers ages 5–17 years old have the opportunity to try their hands at a variety of media, including painting, drawing, sculpting, ceramics, printmaking, digital art, and jewelry making. This year begins on Monday, June 19, 2023, so mark your calendars! Early-bird registration opens on Monday, December 19. Camps are available for kids (ages 5–9), tweens (ages 10–12), and teens (ages 13+).

The Visual Arts Center of New Jersey serves the communities in and around Summit, as well as Hudson, Union, Essex, Sussex, and Somerset counties. VACNJ is located at 68 Elm Street, in Summit, NJ. For more information and to register for camps, classes, and workshops, please visit artcenternj.org.
