Westfield Library Series: Sharing Our Stories kicks off with a celebration of Hindu culture in November

On Saturday, November 5, all Westfield residents are invited to attend Darshana: A Glimpse into the Hindu Civilization. Hinduism is the world’s oldest living civilization.

Bring your families out for this event, which begins with remarks by Mayor Shelley Brindle at 10:30am on Saturday, November 5, 2022. Light Indian snacks will be provided, and children are invited to participate in coloring and rangoli (a traditional art form) activities.

You can expect to learn about Hindu culture, including traditions, festivals, symbols, and values. In addition, there will be presentations on yoga, life purpose, divinity, sacred texts, Sewa (service), and Ayurveda (herbal medicine).

3.2 million Hindus call America their home, and we are fortunate to have many Hindu neighbors in and around Westfield.

This event is part of Westfield Library Series: Sharing Our Stories, sponsored by the Town of Westfield’s Human Relations Advisory Commission (HRAC) and Westfield Memorial Library.

“The library has long been a trusted source of information and educational experiences in the Westfield community,” says Allen McGinley, Library Director. “I’m thrilled for the library to collaborate on this new series, as we highlight some of the diverse influences that make up Westfield’s rich and evolving cultural landscape.”

“HRAC has been a fantastic partner for the library, and I’m looking forward to offering more programs that bring help to bring the community the together.”

The mission of HRAC is to provide an egalitarian, welcoming, inclusive, safe, and productive community for the residents, local businesses, and visitors of the Town of Westfield, New Jersey.

HRAC serves as a resource and community partner to uproot, dismantle, and eradicate hate, prejudice, racism, and bias – to foster an inclusive and supportive environment, raise awareness, and build a community that appreciates our commonalities and celebrates our diversity.
