A Morning Volunteering at Cranford Family Care

by Natalie Fidlow @nfidlow I decided to volunteer in the spirit of the Thanksgiving season. I had heard a little about Cranford Family Care but didn’t know exactly what they did. Instead of researching and possibly falling into analysis paralysis, I picked up the phone and gave them a call. Julie Carroll, the director, answered. I rambled on as a timid first-timer, to which Julie politely replied, “When would you like to come in? You could help us stock the pantry. If you prefer grocery shopping, we can have you do that.” That was easy! I arrived at my scheduled time and followed a man pushing...

MYTH: Eating too much Turkey makes you sleepy You would need to eat about 5.4 pounds of turkey before actually feeling the effects of tryptophan. That’s about one entire Turkey! MYTH: Thanksgiving has been celebrated every year since the nation’s founding When Congress passed the Holiday Act in 1870, Thanksgiving was declared one of the first four official holidays (The pilgrims celebrated their version...

pet of the month

Meet Morgan Where/why did you get your pet? Not long after we moved into our current apartment, we decided we wanted to adopt a dog. Mike’s parents have a beagle, so we were looking for beagles or beagle-mixes. We found Mo in around January, 2020, through a rescue group in Arkansas called Last Chance Arkansas. Mo had been found along the side of a highway with her mother and a sibling. After we did a video “interview” and were approved to adopt Mo, she was transported to New Jersey.
