Edison 7th grader Jasmine Parran is the New Jersey State Merit Winner for the 2023 3M Young Scientist Challenge, a nationwide project-based science competition. Jasmine’s project – created in a gifted education “Inventions” elective course and entitled “Solar Roadways and Energy Trappers” – won her recognition as the top entry among all other submissions in New Jersey.

Where/why did you get your pet?
We fell in love with French Bulldogs a few years before we got Ruby, as they are so sweet, funny, and friendly. In May 2020, we picked up Ruby in the Poconos, but she was born in Romania and flown here. There were travel delays due to Covid restrictions.

Athletes from the Westfield Area Y Flyers Track Club traveled to Cortland, New York this past weekend to compete in the USATF Region 2 Junior Olympic Championships. The meet was held at SUNY Cortland and hosted athletes from the New Jersey, Niagara, Three Rivers, and Mid-Atlantic Associations. A total of 13 Flyers competed with 12 earning advancements to the National Championships. Additionally, 5 athletes brought home Region 2 titles.
Brian Guterl earned a title win in the 13-14 Boys 3000m Race Walk division. The 13-14 Boys 4x100m relay team of Gabe Worrell, Alex Kessler, Justin Simmons Jr....
