Westfield Memorial Library to Celebrate Makers Day March 16

On Saturday, March 16, the Westfield Memorial Library will celebrate Makers Day with interactive workshops, drop-in demonstrations and open exploration. The American Scholastic Press Association has awarded Westfield High School’s Optic Magazine “First Place with Special Merit” for its reporting during the 2022-2023 school year.  This category recognizes the top-scoring high school and college student magazines nationally for the organization’s Scholastic Newspaper Awards. The Westfield Area YMCA Devilfish competed at the SAY (Summit Area YMCA) Deep Freeze at the Summit Area YMCA in Summit, NJ February 2-4, 2024.

The team achieved additional YMCA Championship qualifying times including: 3 new National, 25 new State, and 61 new Silver times. Two new Devilfish relay records were set by the 13-14 boys: 800 Free Relay: Jonathan Peterson, Jacob Galczynski, James Kavanagh, Alex Giangone and 400 Medley Relay: Ben Lane, Jonathan Peterson, Alex Giangone, Jacob Galczynski, a record that stood since 1991! Michelle Petrow Named Governor’s Teacher of the Year and Mary Markowski Named Educational Services Professional of the Year For Brookside Place School 2023 – 2024

Michelle Petrow has been named the Governor’s Teacher of the Year for Brookside Place School (BPS) and Mary Markowski has been named the Educational Services Professional of the Year for BPS as part of the 2023-2024 Governor’s Teacher/Educational Services Professional Recognition Program. “I feel humbled and honored to have been selected when I work in a building of truly outstanding educators,” said Ms. Petrow.
